Privacy Policy

As this is a personal website, I do my best not to collect any personally identifiable information. Analytics are minimal, and there are no cookies that that gather information between sites. The following describes the information that is collected, and why.

Server Logs

Server logs are kept for a period of 7 days in order to troubleshoot issues and monitor for and block abusive IPs (e.g. bot traffic). These contain IP addresses, as well as non-personally identifiable information (request information, user agent, referer, etc.)

Analytics

I use my own instance of GoatCounter (hosted on this server) for collecting basic, non personally identifiable analytics. This gives me some minimally invasive insight into how my blog is discovered and what is being read. The following information is collected and stored:

• URL that was visited
• Referer header from the http request
• Browser/system information (as indicated by the User-Agent header)
• Screen size
• Country/region (as indicated by the IP address)

In particular, note the the full User-Agent is not stored, nor is the IP Address. Anonymized IP Addresses and User Agent information is kept in memory for 8 hours to identify a single browsing session. The information is not saved to the disk.

Third Parties

DigitalOcean is the hosting provider for this website. They have the ability to monitor traffic to this server and access data stored on the server when necessary. See their privacy policy.
